STRUCTURE OF THE AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER HEALTH SURVEY § the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Survey (NATSIHS) As shown in the diagram, around 13,400 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people participated in either the NATSIHS or NATSINPAS, answering questions about topics such as long-term health conditions, health risk factors, tobacco smoking and self-assessed health, physical activity and sedentary behaviour. Around 12,900 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were included in the Core and 4,100 participated in the NATSINPAS only. Also as indicated in the diagram, there are questionnaire content differences across non-remote and remote areas. Information about private health insurance, second day dietary recall, pedometer use, and physical activity for 2-4 year olds were not collected in remote areas. In addition, different questions were used to collect employment and physical activity data in non-remote and remote areas.
